Photographer’s Note

The first days of 2006 brought us a colder weather. Lovely days with a strong but low sun, clear air, no wind and temperatures down to -20 C. In the lower parts of the agricultural areas around our little town some fogs stayed. Not all natural fog as the excess vapour from the making of artificial snow at the two skislopes nearby tend to travel several km in this weather.

Looking across a shallow valley the layers of fog was clear to see. To get some definition of the landscape it was neccessary to look at bushes, the barns or the stacks of rolled hay.

The pinkish color is natural from the low sun. I locked the white balance on "sun" trying not to be fooled by an automatic white balance. I only desaturated it slightly.

Brrrrr ! Freezing over there... Very interesting compo mixing the warm light and the mysterious mist. A very appealling peaceful picture.

Hello Ebbe, I have been looking at these pictures of that wonderful day, and they all are gorgeous! This one is no exception. The low diagonal of the grass, and the half barn and tree are so beautiful, and then there's that other layer with the trees and the top part of the fog sunlit. Beautiful, Ebbe, and dreamy.

This is a haunting image Ebbe, very well done. I might have preferred a bit more open space to the right of the barn, if that were possible in this scene. While the image has much space because of the ground fog, it feels constrained by the border at the right. I like the image nonetheless, especially the thin line of foliage poking through the snow in the foreground. Fine work with the limits placed on you by the season. These are fine contributions to our understanding of your wintry home.

Fantastic mist and beautiful simplicity. The barn just peeking out of the mist. Im a huge fan of minimalistic shots so this one is right up my alley. I wonder if a crop at the top so as to include only the fog would also work.

I like your fairy tale like foggy atmosphere; the forest seems to hover over the barn. Fascinating light conditions perfectly used.

- I like much the softness of this image contrasting with the rigour of the cold which it represents, almost monochromic environment is there for much, well considering!
