Photographer’s Note
This is an alley of the Old Town of Stockholm called Yxsmedsgränd (Axesmith Alley). The alley is stretching between the Västerlånggatan and Munkbron. It is mentioned already in 1612 and the name Yskemes grenden and has had various names since then. It got its present name in 1885. The alley is mentioned in the in Sweden well-known 18th century poet and composer Carl Michael Bellman’s Epistles of Fredman, In epistle number 28 there is a line "I går såg jag ditt barn, min Fröja, I Yxsmeds gränd" (translated into English :Yesterday I saw your child, my Froja, in the Axsmith Alley). It refers to Ulla Winblad one of the characters in many Bellman’s works. In real life Ulla Winblad was Maria Kristina Kiellström that lived in the alley.

Bonjour Ulf
Quelle lumière aveuglante au bout de cette ruelle !
Très intéressante et originale composition.
Bonne gestion de l'exposition, on découvre l'heure bleue au sommet de l'image.
Well done.

Hi Ulf,
These alleys are very interesting because they retain secular characteristics. It's like traveling back in time. Very good composition, great management of light, beautiful colors and good sharpness.
Greetings

Hej Ulf,
The open window late in the evening gives a strong indication of the end of a warm summer's day. The light shining through the window and from Västerlånggatan create a very intimate atmosphere. The coloured sign of the glasscutter's shop, the café and Maria Rose, whatever that is, also look cosy at night in this narrow alley. You have handled the sparse light very well among these old buildings, and I like the glimpse of the evening sky.
Well done,
Gert

Hej Ulf,
A fine contrast with the natural blue colour of the evening sky and the bright artificial light at the end of the alley. I like the note as well, always interesting to read about Bellman.

I don't remember having seen this alley, even if there were similar ones in Gamla Stan.
You have done a very good job here with the light: the exposure is perfect and it creates a very fine atmosphere, just like I remember it to be during my stay there. The details of the architecture is so lovely and I like especially the open window at the right and that luminous sign at the left. Colours are superb too. The clarity of the photo impressses me!
My best compliments,

Hello Ulf,
I like this picture because I love such beautiful streets of old towns. This one looks much like old-town lanes in Riga or Tallinn where I was several times. In your shot the alley looks very nicely and romantically due to the perfect composition with so lovely old architecture and attractive street ads. Excellent job!
Best regards,
Sergiy

Hello Ulf,
Those narrow streets in Gamla Stan are really something charming!
I remember first time I hear Marie Bergman live I was just dropping in at a place in GS...
I like the tunnel feeling here, and the special colours are well reproduced!

Hej Ulf,
this is one of the best and interesting photos of Gamla Stan which I've seen. Gamla Stan looks very attractive when it's dark.. but it is so difficult to take photos there in the dark!
Excellent composition, with these "lighted" spots gradually descending one by one from the top to the bottom in the BG..
And I also like the light management in this image very much :)
varma hälsningar,
Elena

Hello Ulf,
at first it looks like a narrow Mediterranean alley! (May be because of the colours so much typical for Middle-Italy.) I like the well balanced lighting - not because of a mere perfectionism but it is inevitable for this excellent, intimate atmosphere.

Hej Ulf,
Magical Gamla stan..I never get bored of that see photos from this place. The place with so much interesting history and fantastic architecture !
This one is no exception. A wonderful atmosphere in this street, especially the light comming out of the open window.Maybe a little bit overexposed in the end of the street. A great note(thanks for interesting information)
