Photographer’s Note

Some while ago I posted this photo where you could see two churches in the same picture. One of them was the Masthugg Church (Masthuggskyrkan) and here you can see it again, together with yet another church.

Masthuggskykan is a really a landmark in Gothenburg, it is on top of a hill and can be seen from all parts of the city and from far away out on the sea. It was inaugurated in 1914 and the architect was Sigfrid Eriksson.

The other church below it, is the Saint John Church (Johanneskyrkan). This church was built in 1866, by the initiative of the priest Peter Wieselgren. After his death, the church became a sailor´s church in 1878. In 1996 this church was taken over by a private organisation, the Gothenburg City Mission, and does no longer belong to the Swedish Church.

This photo was taken just outside the Stena Denmark Terminal, which dominates a major part of the southern riverside in the central city.
