End of Morteratsch glacier near the Bernina pass.

Within the last century this glacier has retreated about 1,5 km. While some of this may be due to natural variations, global warming is likely to be the main reason for this.

When eternal ice melts lots of rocks and gravel become loose. And the glacier no more looks wonderful with pristine blue ice. Rather like unused stone quarry. On a hot summer afternoon the air was full with rattle of falling rocks.
