Photographer’s Note

In the background: Saint Nicholas Cathedral.

According to a legend, if its 74 m bell is unfinished it is because there was no money left. A jewel of Gothic architecture, the cathedral was built between 1283 and 1490.

When I first saw it in other photos on the Net I couldn't believe my eyes when looking at the cathedral of such an unusual shape.

And I thought that I must see it with my own eyes in any weather.

Both fortunately and unfortunately, Fribourg does not seem to be a "true" tourist city.

Fortunately - because I was very glad not to see crowds of tourists (only rather rare individuals)!

Unfortunately - because we could not find a single souvenir shop in the city!! (Maybe we didn't look for them thoroughly?)

A special appeal to those who live in Fribourg and happen to see this photo: please, if you know any souvenir shop in the city, tell me its address! because I hope to visit Fribourg again.

Well... back to my story...

Fribourg presented itself to us in a very modest (and, probably, testing?) way: the day was rather "colourless", it was very cloudy and almost drizzling when we went off the train at the train station.

But I was happy to see the city in any weather. And maybe the city felt it because little by little, as we walked from the train station towards the cathedral, the sky cleared up, the sun began to shine... and the city showed itself at its best :-)

I have very many photos of this cathedral taken from very different angles (including those taken with the bright blue sky above the cathedral).

But finally I decided to start with this photo in which the sky isn't quite blue yet but the sun is already shining, and the city is in a "transition" from "colourless" to "colourful":)

In the Workshop: another variant, slightly different POV. Which would you like better?

PP work: minor perspective correction (lens distortion).
