Photographer’s Note
In the background: Saint Nicholas Cathedral.
According to a legend, if its 74 m bell is unfinished it is because there was no money left. A jewel of Gothic architecture, the cathedral was built between 1283 and 1490.
When I first saw it in other photos on the Net I couldn't believe my eyes when looking at the cathedral of such an unusual shape.
And I thought that I must see it with my own eyes in any weather.
Both fortunately and unfortunately, Fribourg does not seem to be a "true" tourist city.
Fortunately - because I was very glad not to see crowds of tourists (only rather rare individuals)!
Unfortunately - because we could not find a single souvenir shop in the city!! (Maybe we didn't look for them thoroughly?)
A special appeal to those who live in Fribourg and happen to see this photo: please, if you know any souvenir shop in the city, tell me its address! because I hope to visit Fribourg again.
Well... back to my story...
Fribourg presented itself to us in a very modest (and, probably, testing?) way: the day was rather "colourless", it was very cloudy and almost drizzling when we went off the train at the train station.
But I was happy to see the city in any weather. And maybe the city felt it because little by little, as we walked from the train station towards the cathedral, the sky cleared up, the sun began to shine... and the city showed itself at its best :-)
I have very many photos of this cathedral taken from very different angles (including those taken with the bright blue sky above the cathedral).
But finally I decided to start with this photo in which the sky isn't quite blue yet but the sun is already shining, and the city is in a "transition" from "colourless" to "colourful":)
In the Workshop: another variant, slightly different POV. Which would you like better?
PP work: minor perspective correction (lens distortion).

Hi Elena,
A good perspective with a long line starting at the top of the tower and curving down along the street. THe line actually starts with the building to the far left. Looks like a nice cafe across the street!
Kind regards

Hello Elena
A street scene from a different city and a different country. Of the two photos I personally prefer the workshop as the long roof line seems to lead the eye down to the cathedral. Looks like an attractive city to visit. Tfs, Marlene

Ciao Elena! So you are back on TE! I enjoyed your visit and our little breakfast in rainy Zuerich. Fun to hear from you via sms, the new media makes it all possible to keep in touch. Wonderful!!!! This is a really good presentation of Fribourg, a town not very often presented on TE and as you say left out by tourists which is actually a shame. See you make it famous and next time you will have other tourists ... and a tourist shop hopefully :)))) Have a great evening. We had a hot and sunny day in Zuerich, but now it looks dark, a storm is moving in later in the day. All my best, Barbara.

Hello Elena,
This is an impressive cathedral, and the building in front of it is also very attractive, well worth to be posted on TE. The light is very mild and well exposed. But actually I prefer the ws this time, mainly because of a "cleaner" view without the cut off motorbike on the right side of this picture. Also there is more blue sky in the ws.
Hälsningar,
Gert

Hi Elena,
Your note goes well with the image. Ordinary city that does not attract masses of tourists. And still it is full of pretty architecture and that special cathedral. Well chosen viewpoint. Even I haven't visited Fribourg except passing through by train. I know I should.

dear Elena,
a very cheerful and joyful shot of the graceful street and the old cathedral.
this center house looks like a castle in tails, its sharp roofs are impressive.
and all houses on this street look quite in a fantasy too.
then Saint Nicholas Cathedral, if it were not there, perhaps I would think that it is CG image...
old people in the world built large buildings of stones and woods, now those look watching us here from not there but beyond the long time, in my feeling.
as a photo picture, this curved composition from fore left to back right matches natural flowing of this view and our visual sensation too very well.
thank you for your pleasant shot,
Akihisa

Hello Elena,
Both this and WS are good, but I like this for its wider view, showing also the curve of the road towards right. Both the church tower and the house in from of it look interesting. Beautiful light and colours and good clarity. TFS!
Best regards,
Lasse

Hello Elena!
Architecture and city life are splendid here!
Excellent sharpness, exposure and natural colors!
I didn't visit Fribourg, but I'm sure I'd enjoy it a lot as well as the others swiss cities!
TFS - congratulations!
My warmest regards,
