Photographer’s Note

The Piz Palü, with its 3 majestic peaks above the Pers glacier, one of the wonderful icy peaks top of Engadine in the warm afternoon light.
I tried a black white conversion maybe the black sky is a bit too much?
taken on the trail from the Diavolezza to the Munt Pers, I had some time since resting there, the last cabin going up at 5 and the evening lunch served at 7 ;-)

I'll post a coloured horizontal one soon for comparison.

Hello Didier,
the landscape is fantastic, of course. But I also like this black and white interpretation, with black sky and strong contrast. As if you used a red filter in the old times of analogic black and white.

as far as I'm concerned the black sky is just right for this cosmic scene. love the pattern of curves on the right, great shot.

Un jour, il va falloir que j'aille prospecter dans ces contrées de Suisse orientale! ;-)

This is really an extreme conversion, even looking at the photo hurts my eyes, I can imagine what it was like to look at the real scenery :) I think you need some sky for balance, so it works very well for me this way.

Très impressionnant ce B & W ! ambiance dramatique assurée, le contraste est magnifique, un cadrage très étudié qui offre une belle profondeur. De loin on peut croire à un paysage lunaire... Encore bravo à toi !

no, no...the sky is NOT too much black. Actually it works pretty well as it is. It makes the scene even more dramatic and exquisite. Very good filtered b&w photo. I like it!

Its strange i was enjoying a travelogue with photos in bnw of the high himalayas in the afternoon and was wondering why we dont try the same on te more often..leave aside the colours and saturation..etc..and let the landscape stand out with its grandeur stand out in it complete purity..and it does very well...you show us how...

What a majestic landscape of this snow mountain, Very strong contrast, the sky is nearly black, great texture of the rugged rocks and landscape. I'll be carious to see the color version for comarision. Thanks

Super, Didier, dieses Schwarz ist wie aus Ansel Adams Küche !
Und das letzte Licht zeichnet starke Kontraste, die drei Grate rechts hinten sind sehr plastisch und ideal positioniert.

I like thid Didier even though the sky is pitch black. Maybe a little less sky and more of the foreground to balance composition. Well done.
