| [Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe |
Furka-Oberalp train descending to Göschenen with class Deh 4/4 II engine in front. In Switzerland many locomotives are named after towns, with coat of arms on the side. This one is 'Andermatt'.
Schöllenenbahn is four km line between Göschenen and Andermatt through Schöllenen gorge on the approach towards Gotthard pass. It's a metre gauge cogwheel line with maximum gradient of 17,9 %. The line was opened in 1917. In 1961 Scöllenenbahn was merged with Furka-Oberalp-Bahn. Name of the company has been Matterhorn-Gotthard-Bahn since merger with BVZ Zermatt-Bahn in 2003.

It's a great little train! I remember travelling from Göschenen to Disentis with it one year. The Schöllenen Gorge isn't really the most photogenic part of Switzerland so you've done well to make such an attractive image. It really gives a flavour of the place!
The red train stands out very nicely against the setting you chose for the shot, Kari. I esp. like how you include on top a glimpse of the light in the mountain, so we better understand the shadow, and the excellent choice of exposure. Superb scan. Regards, Daniel
Hi Kari,
This look like a scenery found in such magazine as Scale Model railroading.
Beautiful.
