Photographer's Note

I came to the village of Sokirintsi to capture the famous Galagans mansion. I asked a local man the way to the mansion. He guided me to the place and told me a story about the construction of the church we had passed by.

Some years ago a young priest came to the village to initiate construction of a church, because all churches were destroyed there during the Soviet era. He went along the main street to visit the local authorities and ask them for a help. The first persons, whom he met on this way, were two unemployed men, my guide Oleksiy and his friend Leonid. The priest introduced himself with the words Good morning! I am Father Vasiliy, your new parson. As the men were slightly tipsy, they said Hello! I am Father Oleksiy, Nice to meet you! My name is Father Leonid. The priest was surprised. When he had come to the sheriffs office, he said that maybe his presence in the village is not needed, because there are two other priests there. The sheriff said to the parson that those fathers would help him to build the new church.

Thus, the church was built very quickly. You can see it in the picture.
