Photographer’s Note
This is Velika Danilivka (“Big Daniel’s Village”), newly build quarter in Saltivka residential area of Kharkiv city. Dwelling houses are not fully constructed yet, but the church is. This situation is completely new for Ukraine. Moreover, before Ukrainian Independence (1991) there were no new churches built at all.
This shot has given me an opportunity to show a new approach on housing development. But also when preparing it for posting I could find for myself the best algorithm of the editing to get maximal resulting quality and conform the TE rules. The problem is that some TE users’ images, including mine, suffer from something like aureole around contrasting details. I believe this photographic fault is called “ghost” in English. If a ghost has rather discrete structure, the compression level of JPG-JPEG format may be blamed. But the “best quality - minimal compression” setting gives too big file to be posted for TE. For example, this image had 341 kB at the 100% quality. The 99% quality gave 286 kB that was OK for TE (not more 300 kB).
Thus for this image, which in my camera had such properties as 3264*2448 and 2MB (jpg) by means of ACD FotoCanvas I have made the following (in Paint and Microsoft Office Picture Manager I could not find the settings for jpg-image quality):
1. one degree rotation to make the church (main compositional element) look more vertically;
2. cropping after rotation;
3. auto levels adjusting;
4. resizing to 800*631 pixels;
5. saving with several qualities (from 90% to 100%) to search the file of maximal size, but < 300 kB.
I think these operations should be made at one sitting to avoid extra savings, which reduce the quality.
Hopefully this image is free of ghosts. The shining things above the higher cupola are small chains hanging over the cross as a decoration. In addition, the church has been already consecrated…
POST PROCESSING OF THE POST
As a response to the critique given by keribar I've made some self-editing as a workshop image with small vertical perspective correction to make the houses on the left stand straight, without leaning. Please see the result here.

Hi Sergiy,
I think is not easy to make this photo to include foreground big church and background houses, 2 method to edit this photo, to sliding the church but not sliding the floor, or just crop out, to show only the church without background, thanks for sharing.

The architecture of the new church is beautiful and it incorporates many traditional features. You composed the image well so we can also see some of the new houses in the background. Compression for TE size has always been a big problem; even more so when the size limit was 200kb!

Hello Sergiy,
Nowhere one builds many new churches, and in France the rare news is out of concrete and of a hopelessly banal architecture. The church that you present preserve a recognizable traditional architecture. A beautiful descriptive image and of good quality. Cheer.
Have a nice sunday

Hello Sergiy,
Wonderful shot and great note to accompany the image especially with your well detailed work flow.
The area seems will be popular one in a few years after newly building the church. Excellent clarity and sharpness in natural colors. Congratulations.
I wish merry Christmas to you and your family.

Old architectural style church with modern materials is intriguing. Is this Greek Orthodox type? Or?
Anyway it is always wonderful when modern humans use the past to improve the future.

Hi Sergiy!
I like the Eastern European style of church towers, and it seems to please a lot of people, as they come into your featured photos!
I also like the fact that they have kept this sort of style for new churches!
This orange stone stands well against the blue sky and the lighter colour of the new buildings under construction!
You did a very good job with getting rid of the ghost! I have the same problem of course, but I am not skilled enough to do all the repairs that you did!
Thanks for sharing and best regards from Brittany, France!
MarieLouise.
PS. I would like to see another photo of the place when the district around is completed!

Bonjour Sergiy.
