Photographer’s Note

This church was opened in 1866 in Khakiv’s suburb of Zhuravlevka. Now this is Shevchenko’s street, one of the longest in the city. The construction of the church was over in 1875. It was built in Russian-Byzantine style according to the design made by architects F. I. Danilov and V. N. Nebolsin.

The church kept working even at the times of persecutions and Nazi’s occupation. There was the church garden there up to the 1950-th, but unfortunately now it has become a parking. The church was renovated in 1996, the year of its 130-th anniversary. Then a Sunday school was opened there. As the church and the whole region of Zhuravlevka are situated near the Kharkiv River, there are expressive ceremonies of water sanctifying there in winters.
