Photographer's Note

Good Morning Everyone,

This photograph shows one of the lions on the Plymouth Naval Memorial.

Please click on A Guarding Lion to see the photograph on Beta. It is much more impressive. 😀

The memorial has a very central position on Plymouth Hoe, overlooking Plymouth Sound in Devon. It is a well-known local landmark commemorating more than 7,200 naval personnel of the First World War and nearly 16,000 of the Second World War who were lost or buried at sea.

From this low position, I think it gives the lion great dignity and stature, not necessarily felt from a level position.

I will add a workshop of the whole memorial so that you can gain an understanding of its size and position.

Plymouth is a most interesting place for photography where the light seems to alter constantly and where just a turn of the head or a bend of the knee can give whole new inspiration.

Have a lovely Sunday, Bev :-)
