Photographer's Note

No! Not the superb U2 guitarist, but the chalk cliff edge above the distinctive red and white striped lighthouse at the foot of Beachy Head in East Sussex, England. 43 meters (141 feet) in height it became operational in October 1902 and is now fully automated. Since this shot was taken the south coast of England has suffered one of its worst winters for storms, with this particular piece of the coastline experiencing the equivalent of 7 years erosion in just 2 months.
