The Spinnaker Tower, a photo from Hampshire, England

Good Morning Everyone,

As talk of celebrations for Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee gain momentum, it reminded me of a photograph that I took of something which was built to celebrate a previous milestone, The Milennium.

This is The Spinnaker Tower, situated at the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour. It was conceived as part of the Milennium Project and, being taller than Blackpool Tower, taller than The London Eye, is the tallest publicly accessible building in the U.K. It is 170 metres tall and has three viewing platforms. On a clear day, it is claimed that, views as far away as 23 miles can be seen.

I took this shot from the cross-channel ferry when returning from France.

Wow! Never knew that was at Portsmouth! Now every time I play Mike Oldfield's song, this will come to mind instead of old ships & sailors. It has a passing resemblance to the famous hotel in Dubai. Tfs!

This is a lovely shot, now nearly three years old, which perfectly obeys all the classical rules of composition. As your son studied here in Portsmouth, I presume that you must have visited the Spinnaker Tower and enjoyed the views from its different levels?

Lovely colours, perfect exposure and excellent detail and sharpness - technically excellent considering that it was taken from a moving ship.

This is a great...er... erection in the middle of Portsmouth. As I don't know the city at all, is this type of moern structure in keeping with the rest of the architecture? Anyway, your photo issuperb, with excellent crisp lines and contrasts, together with skillful control of the strong ligt. COngrats.
