oppersite the marina in the town centre is another sculpture dedicated to ship building in whitby.
Again carved by local a craftsman (not the same one as carved the whale) on my previous posting it shows 2 men working on the "stem post" using the type of tools they would have used when building the sailing ships that were built all along the river esk in town, evedence of these sites was found and recorded in WHITBY ARCHIVES (a web site well worth a visit) when the new sewer and drainage work was been carried out in the town a few years ago.

i know the horizon is on a tilt but to level it meant cropping out the top of the post
