[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
This is a view of the Angel of the North as the sun was setting. Having lived in the city for 5 years I decided it was about time I visited one of its most famous landmarks. I am very much a beginner so any tips/advice is appreciated.

Critiques [Translate]

Welcome to TE Jon.
This is a very familiar landmark and a creative way of showing it. The long narrow crop works very well. I like the starburst from the sun and I can see you chose your POV (point of view)carefully. The edges of the angel are slightly soft which could just be as a result of downsizing for the web. It is recommended that the last thing to do before saving is to sharpen. I tend to sharpen 100% but just on 0.1pixels. Over sharpening can cause halos round the subject.
If you want plenty of feedback on your work I cannot emphasise strongly enough that you need to do critiques yourself, as it is the only way to get your work noticed. With the 100s of images posted every day they soon get lost in the gallery. I know as a beginner you might not feel qualified to critique, but have a look at other critiques and then take the plunge. You can usually find something you like in an image and learning to say why you like it helps your own work too. You'll soon find it comes easier and critiquers will slowly come to you too.
Good luck
Kath

Hello Jon,you obviously thought carefully about your composition, and I think it was successful. The sun burst is very effective.
I can only second Kaths' words, you will benefit greatly by critiquing and commenting on the work of others; it really makes you look and consider why or why not, you like particular pictures.
Welcome to TE,I look forward to seeing more from you.
Tfs, regards Jean.
