Photographer’s Note

Chamberlain Memorial Fountain. On a weekend tour with one of the very cheap Irish airlines (€5 one way from Frankfurt !!!) we follow the tour guide through the city. Near the Victorian square we see this fountain surrounded by a beach arranged by another British airline. The day before it was cold and rainy so it seems to be that nobody was interested in this early morning.

Chamberlain Memorial Fountain was constructed in a neo-Gothic style was erected in 1880 in commemoration of Joseph Chamberlain, one of the great 19th-century city politicians of Birmingham.

Un joli cliché de cette superbe fontaine. Plutôt sympas toutes ces chaises longues colorées qui attendent les promeneurs.

Hi Achim. You would need to add a few zeros to that price to me to UK from here!! Nice photo, good colours and clarity. Well composed with the deck chairs making a nice counterpoint. Thanks for sharing.

Hallo Achim. Was für ein scheinbares durcheinander an Gebäuden und architektonischen Stilelementen. Aber letztlich ist alles irgendwie sehenswert und originell. Und der Mittelpunkt ist ja schließlich das berühmte Memorial. Viele Grüße, Wolfgang.

They make, also, “Paris Plage” in England !!! It is sand I think on the ground… Original environment to develop this memorial, I like much the light and the colors of the image. To see with crowd too. Thank you Achim.

I would never have imagined seeing deckchairs set out in the middle of Birmingham! A very good composition of this impressive fountain perfectly suiting the vertical format. The chairs make very good lead lines and add a touch of humour. Very good light and colours and superb clarity. Thanks for sharing.

The beach chairs have a special effect on the scene. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the Chamberlain Memorial fountain. The buildings are framing well the fountain. The good luminosity is enhancing the colors. have a nice day.

Wonderful contrast between this beautiful 19th century tower and the modern highrise in the background.

I've heard about several of our cities doing this kind of thing. Maybe it's because no-one can afford to take £s into the €-zone this year, so are holidaying at home. Unique and well composed image of a Birmingham landmark.

interesting monument. I have seen similar in London, Belfast and couple of other British towns which means that they explore the idea in a similar way quite often. I have never been to Birmingham so thanks for sharing that.
Your persentation is very interesting with so many various elements surrounding the monument. I really like it.

Where is the beach? ;) The attractive purple chairs and the sand give the impression to be on a beach!
The Memorial fountain looks beautiful and its architecture makes for a good contrast with the modern ones!

Quite an interesting photo and a fine composition full of contrasts: the architecture contrast old/modern, the contrast between the "beach" and the fountain, and a pleasurable light contrast which gives vitality to the image.
