newcastle is a small seaside town in county down, northern ireland. it is situated at the base of the mourne mountains. the shimna river flows from the mournes, through tollymore forest, and into the sea at newcastle. the town takes its name from a castle built in the 16th century by felix magennis.

northern ireland's tallest mountain, slieve donard is the mountain in the centre of the picture.
