Airport of Gibraltar is built on narrow isthmus between Rock of Gibraltar and Spain. And all the traffic to the town goes across the runway. It makes a pilot's PoV like this possible for ordinary people. Of course all traffic has to be stopped when aircraft takes off or lands, but there aren't too many operations on this airport.

Gibraltar has only one runway, but it is not called Runway 1. Can you guess runway designation just by looking at this page?

Runways are numbered according nearest whole number to compass degrees divided by 10. So runway facing east (90°) is 09, south 18, west 27 and north 36.
On march the sun sets more or less directly to west. So this runway is on east-west direction. So it is Runway 27, pronounced two seven. And when approached from the opposite direction it is Runway 09.

Hi Kari,
Maybe runway to the sun? ;-)
The long perspective and the light makes the image. A simple though very effective composition....nice.
Have a nice weekend, Henk

hi Kari

Runway sunset or west?

A nice wide shot to showcase this airport runway through town, well composed with sun off center. Good work.

TFS, bill

Hi Kari
Wonderful perspective and great composition, light are excellent.
TFS/Regards

I like this Kari, great perspective, was the camera on the ground?!

The very low POV you have chosen fits very well karj , nice light management and framing too , natural colours and calm atmosphere , thanks to share.
Stefano.

Well exposed sunset, Kari. A lot of depth, given by the long lines into the frame. Maybe I would have liked to see a plane, so as to better understand this is a runway. North Front?(http://www.scramble.nl/airports/publish/lxgb.htm). I guess it's Africa back there. Regards, Daniel

Hi Kari,
one for the flights into the sun, I guess west, but if the sun is anywhere else..
I like the exposure having good view on all needed parts. Up up an away
Lieben Gruss, Ulf

It could be Runway West (or East if this is a sunrise)The white line certainly makes a powerful lead-in line. I like how the clouds all seem to radiate from the sun.

Hi Kari,
Very telling view of this unusual airport; where else can you take this picture of the runway.
About its name, I don't know. Can be Runway North, because it's on the northern side of the territory. Or Runway Zero...
Regards,
F

An easy one, Kari, and I wouldn't want to miss a comment on this. The sun is about to set on an evening in the beginning of March. Which means that you (and the runway) are looking due West. So the most plausible guess would be Runway 27.

Hi Kari.

Nice effect how you get us "into" the picture due to that road....excellent.

The destination??? Ummmm...Mordor?

Rgs, Oscar

Terve Kari,
Euh ??? have you been walking on the runway to try plane hitchhiking back to Finland ? Interesting method...
In addition to the perspective and the offcentered sun I find from a strategic point of view it's quite a good way to shoot a sunny picture while being de jure in Great Britain... ;-)
Have a nice day JY

WOW!! what a photo, excellent work Kari, the perfect POV and the fantastic light makes it really actractive, compliments!!

have anice day,
Fabio.

Excellent perpective and depth, greatly served by the low point of view. To bad the sunset is not centered on the line, but you cannot always fly into the sun...

All the best,

Emmanuel
