Photographer's Note

Peel Castle originally was a fort built by the vikings in the 11th c,under King Magnus Barelegs. It was later reconstructed by William le Grope 1392 and added to in the 14th c. Defensive positions were added in 1860 thus the gun battery on the ramparts. The Castle was built from local red sandstone.
