Flat terrain is a rare commodity in Gibraltar, and is used efficiently.

On the top of the picture you see approach road on the Spanish town of La Linea de la Concepción. Tightly connected to each other are Spanish and Gibraltar customs. Queue of white minibuses are ready to take tourists to Rock Tour. (Not a bad idea for first time visitors. This shot was taken on such a tour next to great siege tunnels.) On the road connecting Gibraltar to rest of the world you can see British double deckers taking care of the town transport. This road crosses the airport runway on the bottom edge to the picture. Next to it is the control tower, fire station and airport terminal.

And on the tarmac there's white Airbus A320 being refueled. But why doesn't it carry any airline colours?

That aircraft belonged to GB Airways, a company founded in 1931 as Gibraltar Airways. It was a partner of British Airways, carrying BA colours. A couple of months ago the company was acquired by easyJet. Obviously about the first thing new owner did, was to cover colours of the competitor with white paint.

Hi Kari.

Good picture!

You have taken up a good point of view here for a more interesting picture!

Well done.

Blair

P.S. I like your camera! The 350D rocks!

Hello Kari, a nice little tour you gave us. You are shooting from a great vantage point looking down over the terminal and border crossing. From here, with these nice clean lines it's almost laid out like a 3D map. Great composition with great sharp clarity throughout.

Thanks, John

Hi Kari.
Good colorful composition with crossing slash lines and high sharpened scenary.
Well done.
Best regards.
Bobo.

Hi Kari,
A view on Gibraltar i never have seen, very interesting. I didn't know they had their own airstrip and long enough for a 320, amazing.
Indeed, space is limited, but all the things that are going on here are very interesting to see...i like it, even the plane without colours ;-)
Regards, Henk

Interesting image of daily life and urban situation, good idea Kari, compliments, I much like both the photo and your note, really good.
Ciao
Vinicio

Hi Kari,
After my 1992 view of Gibraltar, I enjoy very much to see this picture of yours. I like to see all the details in such a compact scene.
Regards,
F

Hi Kari
Cosy little airport indeed and an highly interesting note on the place. I shall visit it through GoogleEarth. How many aircrafts they can handle at once ? not many I guess. TFS

Pierre

Hej Kari,
Nicely framing the terminal building with the ATC tower, the apron with the aircraft and the border crossing with customs within this urban surrounding. It's a busy scene well rendered, with lots of details to discover. The lush sunlight and the palm trees give it a Mediterranean, almost tropical, touch. I guess a wider view including part of the runway (I'm thinking of the road crossing) would have diminished the crowding, as they mainly are just large, empty spaces with not much going on. But I love to see those control towers. Very well done.

Hi Kari, Nice photo taken from an excellent viewpoint. Vey sharp and with natral colors.
Regards
John

Hello Kari,

What an interesting view on this interesting place. The plane looks as if it was expected to go on a road in a while:) and ...absolutely no single inch wasted:)

Good job!

Mikeo
