First, admittedly – there was a strong backlight when taken this picture, and prevailing all along daylight-hours that time of the year. But, I did not want to give up taking this unique edifice on picture. The other side is much less attractive in its design to my humble opinion.
Apparently it was not the Queen's bath, as the plaque on the WS claims. Merely a resting place, pavilion at the far end of the Royal garden.
The location once was part of the Holyrood palace's ground, nowadays, it is a garden at its tourists bus-parking area. 55.9535, -3.1742 on the map, along Abbeyhill.

Interesting old building, I like the rocky texture of the walls and the fresh grass colors. Well seen.

This is the strangest bathhouse I have seen, looking to me more like a witch's house in a fairytale. But it was obviously built to last forever. It's a fascinating building and you did your best to keep the unwanted light pout of the picture.
PS I see a slight mistake in the title.

nice the view of the stone made Queen Mary's bath-house with the strong back light to burn some section of the construction, especially on the upper part of it.In the other construction we can see a lot of details of its architectural style.

in effetti si tratta di una architettura originale, non so come sia la parte opposta, ma questa sembra molto attraente, per cui la scelta di fare la foto in questo punto è sicuramente giusta.
pierrefonds (71095) 2017-03-14 16:27
The tight frame is putting the building in evidence. The point of view is showing the details of Queen Mary's bath-house. The back light does not hurt the output of the colours of the bath-house. Have a nice day.

Nice shot-fine presentation.

This old building looks absolutely splendid in the photo. Its texture and colors are very well shown. As you noted, the strong backlight left something to be desired in the sky. One thing that might have helped in this situation is a fill-in flash, but I am not sure how effective it would be on such a large surface. The other choice is try to ameliorate the effect in post-processing, which takes time and is usually noticeable. Another method that works on my Canon is to point to the sky and half-depress the shutter and keeping it half-depressed, turn back on the subject and fully depress it. However, with such a variation in light levels, you have the danger of underexposing the main subject. Well, those are the only tricks I know...

A very interesting note highlights your photo and debunks the myth as Queen Mary's bath house. The lush grass is characteristic of the British Isles. The color of the stone certainly suggests Scotland as much as anywhere else in the British Isles.

You handled the backlight skilfully I think and the result is a very good, tightly framed photo of this old building. I like the combination with the green tones that surround it. Well seen and captured.

Hello Ike, This small building is so nice that it is not important on what side the light was. very curious place. Lovely conical roofs. Nice discovery near Holyrood.
Have a nice day

A nice idea the second picture as note.
I like the old architecture with the big stones built.
We see all details of this fantastic artwork, ever made by human hands.
Wonderful composition, pleasant colours and nice sharpness.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice day,

I wonder why they called it a bathhouse? Notwithstanding it is a very attractive building seen from this angle with its beautiful stonework. Very good management of the backlight, whilst tight framing puts the accent on the subject.

Ce bâtiment a l'architecture particulière vaut la peine d'être mis en image, bon résultat malgré la prise en contre jour, texture et couleurs bien rendues

I have never seen this in person but your photograph relates excellent details!
I find it resembling a building from children's nursery rhymes: there was a crooked man who had a crooked house!
Although the light is blown in the sky area, it does not affect the lovely details and textures on the house.
It was a good idea to include the railings for their strong vertical appearance and as an excellent lead.
My warm regards,
macjake (72535) 2017-03-15 12:53
I must have missed this place when i visited.
just think, this was basically a play house for the rich...peasants living in the city would LOVE to have had this. the rich get richer right!?
I like how the little house looks so fat! haha
excellent subject material, and yes, not much you can do about the lighting, especially if this was the more attractive and interesting side.
I'll post a new photo tonight

A very remarkable construction. It looks like a building from a fairy tale world while the towers remind me of the Trulli in Apulia, Italy.
Despite the very strong backlight on the right this is a splendid presentation.
Best regards, Paul

Bonjour, cher ami Ike,
A voir le trottoir luisant, la pluie venait de s'arrêter.
Amateur d'architecture et d'Histoire s'y rapportant, je suis comblé.
Un édifice fort curieux et fort apprécié.

What a quaint little building. Looks like something out of a fairytale. I am half expecting a hobbit or an elf to peak out the window! Good sharpness & framing. Tfs!
jmdias (68643) 2017-03-16 6:52
curious the style and details of this structure, looks like the house of the witch in the forest waiting for the little children, haha. very special building, not usual.
alvaraalto (20328) 2017-03-16 14:09
Curious building. My association is a fairy-tale tower in which the princes is waiting to be saved by the prince. Not a pleasant place to bath or to rest.

A most intresting building, this. Original architecture and wonderful stonework. Indeed a wonderful small building. Fine details. Very nice work:) TFS.
gervaso (16665) 2017-03-21 4:18
Interesting architecture of this house built with dark stones, it looks like an abandoned and haunted house of a horror movie! The light is really not the best, but the details were captured beautifuly! Very good job!
clic (18488) 2017-03-24 6:32
Hello Ike For shure, it looks like a fortified resting place barely large enought to keep prisoners insubordinate valets!
Its structure is very attractive and beautifully decorated of the greens growing on the stone work. Shalom

I see you had a good trip in Scotland last autumn ! What a beautiful country, isn't it ?
This is a great capture of Queen Mary's bathhouse. Just like in a fairy tale. Must be haunted no doubt :-))
I love the stone colours and texture as well as the architecture.
Mary queen of Scots is omni-present in Scotland of course ! I happened to be there last August and February, visiting family-in-law.
We visited Mary's birth place in Linlithgow, half-way between Glasgow and Edinburgh.
I would have sent you a photo in WS. But you don't seem to have allowed WS on your photos ?
