Local trains in Great Britain are a strange combination of practicality and ugliness.
This Scotrail diesel unit is quite typical, shot near the Edinburgh main station.
Slightly cropped. Darkened the overexposed sky, as white sky just does not look right. |

For a country that produced some of the most beautiful Steam and Diesel engines these modern Sprinters are just about as ugly as you can get,I was talking about them in these terms with a fellow train buff only last night.Anyhow enough of that this is a pretty well balnced shot showing the little beast doing its job on a suburban run,the only change I would make is to crop at the top of the bridge to get rid of much of the bland sky.
I could not pass this one whithout critique. In my point of view, I do not see ugliness in that yellow and blue train. The bridge in the middle ground may be ugly but the campanile with it's clock in the foreground looks great.
