Photographer's Note
A view looking across the bay towards Porthcawl and Trecco Bay, a huge holiday resort. Porthcawl was developed originally as a coal-port, but was overtaken by the port at Barry, and has since become a holiday destination. A funfair developed there called Coney Beach, named after its illustrious namesake across the Atlantic.
Just like its counterparts in Cornwall and Brittany, this west-facing beach and coast was notorious as a graveyard for ships during strong on-shore winds. Some became victims of the weather, others victim to deliberate misdirection.
This is a stitch of three images. In the larger view, you might make out two groups of donkey rides on the far beach, an old seaside tradition.
Thinks - what is the collective noun for a group of of donkey riders; a herd ?, a parade perhaps, a following maybe ?!

I had forgotten how open and stunning Porthcawl is Martin. You have done some excellent stitching for this panorama from a really good viewpoint that gives that sense of a huge space.Well done.

Hello Martin - Never to resist a challenge of the 'General Ignorance' variety; a group of donkeys can be either a drove, a pace, or a herd. A group of people riding donkeys? Who knows riders-a-pace, donkeys aren't known for speed though! Super panorama, I love the rusty-coloured bracken and wide sands which are perfect for donkey rides aren't they? I really enjoyed the large version of this, the upload quality wasn't the best but goof enough to get a real feel for the coastline under that magnificent sky. Have a lovely evening Rosemary

Good morning Martin,
This is a very fine picture with your usual impeccable technical qualities of perfect exposure, true colours which have not been oversaturated, and exquisite detail and sharpness. And an excellent "stitch" of three images in which I can find no trace whatsoever of any "joins" despite very careful examination.
I agree that, to some extent, your larger panoramic version disappoints just a little as it does not quite have the incisive sharpness and detail of your smaller photograph. But I don't think that the trouble lies with you but rather with the very restrictive limits of the TE upload: here you are limited to a maximum file size of only 400 Kb for large "panorama" pictures.
So, why not do what some others do and use a different site for your larger images? One site which I find fantastic is "Panormamio" - at www.panoramio.com - it's completely free and the file limits are enormous - the limit, I seem to remember, on image size is 50 megapixels and on file size 25 Mb! You can add co-ordinates too and it's easy, in the usual manner, to add a link in your TE notes to your pictures there.
Panoramio is also linked to Google Earth and, if the moderators approve your image, it will be put on Google Earth for all to see. Quite fun.
For instance, you might have seen this large picture which I uploaded and which is now on Google Earth. The other one which I recently uploaded is on Panoramio but was refused entry to Google Earth because the main subject was the train and not the location. But a very good site for displaying full-size pictures if you want to!
Excellent!
Kind Regards,
John.
