Photographer’s Note

On est ici au bord du Loch Shiel, sur site du monument de Glenfinnan, qui marque l'endroit ou le prince Charles Ecouard Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie) a levé son étendard au début des rébellions jacobites de 1745 qui visaient à rétablir un roi catholique de la maison des Stuarts sur le trône.
A propos de la photo, je conseille vivement l'utilisation de filtres gradués pour l'Ecosse...je ne sais pas ce que j'aurais ramené sans eux...il y a de tels contrastes entre les ciels chargés et le paysage que sans, ça me semble difficile...

We are here on the banks of Loch Shiel on the site of the Glenfinnan Monument, which marks the place where Prince Charles Ecouard Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie) raised his standard at the beginning of the Jacobite rebellions of 1745 aimed at restoring a Catholic king of the House of Stuart on the throne.
About the picture, I strongly recommend the use of graduated filters for Scotland ... I do not know what I would have returned without them ... The contrasts are so strong between the overcast skies and the landscape that without them, it seems a difficult task...

Bonjour Philippe
ça c'est l'Ecosse: de l'eau (loch), des montagnes et surtout un ciel changeant. Super netteté (f/22!) et j'aime beaucoup l'éclairage sur la montagne qui ajoute du relief en plus du premier plan.
Un petit whysky pour se réchauffer?

Its colors, management of light, pov, level of sharpness and composition are all excellent!
I specially enjoyed the reflections on the whater surface, but the whole image is truly breathtaking!

This is a fine shot with the reflection add depth and balance for the scene. The lighting is great with the spotlighting of the mountain side and the shadows throughout the scene.

Salut Philippe,

Une très belle lumière, quoique retorse, je trouve. Pourtant j'aurais préféré un autre cadrage, avec en gros un tiers de moins sur la gauche, pour se focaliser sur la montagne de l'autre côté, où les couleurs sont plus vives, les reflets plus ardents, et où l'avant-plan des feuilles est à mon sens, plus intéressant. Les nuages bleutés sont magnifiques et le chateau au fond, emporte nous incite à la traversée. Bravo!

Bonjour Philippe,
Une magnifique photo, rès bien cadrée à mon sens. Il y a une belle diagonale en partant de lavant-plan vers la flaque de lumière sur l'eau suivie du flanc de montagne en feu. Et puis ce magnifique contraste dans le ciel.
Merci pour le conseil. J'ai un filtre ND 3 que j'oublie avec une régularité déconcertante.

looks like you had great time, and even if Scotland is notorious for difficult light, the images you are showing are fantastic, I like a lot the dominant rust red and brown tones and luminous light. I cannot decide if I prefer Marine's WS, it certainly focuses attention more on the light hitting the slope of the mountain, but in your wider version the grass on the left actually forms a line that leads the eye towards that mountain. I'll let you know if I decide, lol :)

L'Ecosse dans toute sa splendeur ! Un superbe cadrage avec une belle profondeur apportée par le grand angle. La lumière est phénoménale, une lumière comme on n'en voit que dans ces pays ! Bref, j'adore !!! Petite question technique : quelle est l'utilité d'un filtre "gradué" ? Je compte bien retourner en Ecosse au printemps ou à l'été prochain, donc si tu trouves que c'est indispensable ça m'intéresse ;)

superbe vue sur ce loch, la lumière est épatante, entre soleil masqué par les nuages et contre-jour.
une belle profondeur de champ, des feuilles flottant au 1er plan au château blanc niché au pied de la montagne au fond à droite.
un beau paysage.

The compo is beautiful with the fallen leaves creating the FG, leading us through the clear water of the Loch to the hill. The light on the hill, filtering through the clouds makes this amazing. What I also like is your exposure control, perhaps thanks to the graduated filter and I see with interest, the perfectly exposed house below the hill nestling in deep shadows, quite clearly. Excellent!

Hello Philippe, In this image you have captured the magic of the Scottish highlands in excellent colour, detail & clarity. The FG detail & reflections are special, combined with light & colours, a truly splendid image. A beautiful scene, very well captured. Love the PP work, the grad filter has also done it's job.

You got some great shots from your trip to Scotland, decent weather and a bit of luck on that front helped you indeed. The lighting is superb in this, especially on that hillside. You managed the exposures really well here, the light metering would have been a tall order I suspect.
