[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
I had forgotten about these photos. I was up before dawn agani last week and decided Whitby was the destination of choice for watching the sunrise, however when I got there it was overly cloudy and didnt make for a very photogenic sunrise. I did the obligatory Abbey at dawn photos, but they were really nothing different to the other Whitby Abbey shots in my gallery, so I wont be posting them.

On my way back from Whitby I decided to nip to Staithes, a quiet old fishing village on the North East coast. Now this village really is like the land that time forgot, its like going back in time seeing all the houses the small fishing boats, the cheeky little pub, and the 4X4 Landrovers.... Well maybe if it wasnt for all the cars it woudl be like going back in time!

I took this photo as I was walking over the bridge I noticed the tide was out and the boats stranded in the trickle of water, in front of these cottages. There was also a duck splashing about when I framed this shot up, but a father and child lured it away with some bread so I missed out there :P

Anyway I like this capture of quiet village life and there is at least one more shot to come from staithes, but I doubt I will get it posted before my next trip. So I will see you all on Tuesday and hope to have a few comments when I get back : )

*****EDIT******

Check out the WS for a smaller border version, I cut off the boats reflection with the border :( So Ive posted a better veriosn to WS!

nice picture you take here. it's a perfect light for these nice colours.
very well composed

Ciao Mark, really nice comp here,...I like the brilliant colors of the bout in foreground and the contrast of the white house with its coloured doors..maybe the complete reflection would have been better but is however a beautiful photo.

have a nice day, Fabio.

Love the composition Mark. This is a well-photographed spot, but as you zoomed in to concentrate on one boat and not the whole scene "a la Yorkshire tea" it makes it a more unique one. Also lucky to get the reflection as the tide is usually out whenever I go.
The only niggle I have is the blue bit on the border; it keeps distracting my eye. Would white have been better?
As for the festival definitely take the camera; you'll kick yourself if you don't. Take plenty of poly bags for the rain and sleep with it in your sleeping bag. If all else fails claim on the insurance
Have a good time
KAth

Beautiful, bucolic image, Mark.
May be a lower focal length would have given a better result, showing the complete reflection of the boat. Anyway, we have to work with the conditions we have at the time.
Very pleasant view indeed.
Regards,
Celso

Mark -

I am not sure which image I like better. The one with the full reflection has some debris in the inlet bed while the other the debris is mostly croped out. Then again, one of the images the large white building seems to be edging toward over exposure. Otherwise, it is a very peaceful and quaint image.

Thanks for sharing

Hey Mark
Lovely scene here, the clarity and colours are beautiful and the reflections very attractive - the WS is defo better than the main pic just for this reason. I agree that the blue bit in the frame isn't fully to my taste either. Apart from that it's a fine picture and nicely framed.
Regards, Susanna

Hi Mark,
beautiful boat. I like its vivid colours in contrast to gray - brown tones. (have you tryed a closer shot?)
>
And beautiful composition. It's nice how the house door is in similar colours than the boat and is also funny with how many ropes is the boat tied, but the tide must be very high and strong. TFS

Hi Mark-
I really like your frame... and i really like the red floats on the boat... and how they bring out the red door, or vise versa either way I like that...it's a nice photo, very nice composition.. i like the sharp crispness of it too!

Hello Mark
i love this compo, so colorful, so quiet with this boat laying down, and with this good reflections...

Hi Mark...

What a nice and clear picture... I like thereflections and detils in the water and around the boat... These old houses also look very nice...TFS...Ina...

Hi Mark, i like the lighting youve found here, its very soft and suits the subject very well, i like the version with the full reflection the most, maybe you could play with the viewpoint, try getting a very low camera anfle so that perspective is changed and all fits into the frame nicely! thats what ive been trying at the moment and it seems to be working! keep posting!

Mark I know exactly what you mean about glorius morning light getting cloudy so the excitment of shooting seems to dissapoint. but this photo still has good merit and it is framed in nicely here. This shoreline scene is very nicely done. But I agree with you that sharp crisp morning light would have lightened it up nicely. Chers as always. I posted my last Cheam photo today.

Hi Mark,
Lovely and well composed view, the morning light is gorgeous and allows for a very nice reflection, very nice and enjoyable result that would be even better framed a tiny bit wider.
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Now I know why I always add borders outside the image and then resize again. This certainly is a peaceful view of a quaint place that time forgot. You mivht have cropped a bit on the right to leave out the front of the second white house, but that's really being picky. It's a great shot.

Hi Mark, I like this tranquil and slow paced daily scene a lot. It's high defenition gives us the oppertunity to examine the abundance of detail. The contrast between the run of the mill houses and the brightly painted little craft makes this shot.
Very nice captured - I like it a lot.
Regards from Rotterdam, Bert.

Mark, very nice shot. I like the sharply taken and the point of view. The little boat looks great and the water reflected too.
I like this picture, another theme can be architecture.
Thanks

Hej Mark,
This is a really nice place to look at with these houses in a row. The little boat in front is also very nice and so is its reflection, well done!

Wow, very good shot! A bit classic somehow, because of the boat and the reflection - but that boat and that beautiful reflection makes the photo very nice. The little boat also gives some colour and depth to this photo and together with those typical houses, it looks very beautiful. The framing of the WS, is indeed better.

Have a nice weekend!
Stef

very good framing and also good lighting.

Hi Mark,
A well composed scene, rendered with superb morning tones and hues. The WS is slightly better, but this is still great work. I like the various layers in the shot, as the eye moves from the boat to the houses, to the rich greenery; a classic three part scene. You have well captured the mood in this morning scene, Mark. Very well done.

This is a very beautiful picture. The white house and the colorful boat are just in the right place for setting up a good composition. You can even crop it in a square format and still get a good compo out of it.

Such as quiet and colorful scene. There is a nice balance to the composition, helping the viewer move through the frame at a nice pace. Well Done.
