This is a phoot of the blast furnace at Corus Steel works Redcar. it was taken as i drove to south gare to try and get some decent sunset photos, but alas it was not to be, the clouds conspired against me and it was VERY windy and hard to keep the camera still. So only the faster exposures worked.

This one was taken as three different shots, i stood on my car wheel to make sure that a fence wasnt included in the shot. I feel thsi could have been sharper, and maybe if I had waited a bit longer I could have got some more intense colours, but its not far away so I can always revisit!

Corus produce steel for use all overthe world, the steel is made from many raw materials including Iron. The blast furnace is where molten iron is formed, with temperatures thousands of degrees C, the molten iron is then poured into torpedos (train carriages capable of carrying moltem metal without burning) and taken to the BOS plant where the iron is turned into steel. The steel is cooled enough to it is malleable, then rolled into slabs or blooms and shipped out to whoever needs the steel!

Hi Mark
another great sunset photo with an interesting industrial theme. The silhouette of the steelworks provides an interesting structure against the beautiful coloured sky.
Regards, Susanna

Hi Mark,

Hi mark! I like this, the sky is amazing. very well done you always manage to get skies perfectly... I would say it's your talent. I like the silhouette of steelworks...... really stands out nicely against the sky.. as I am writing this critique I am noticing it sounds a lot like sleon's.. haha didn't mean for it to.. guess that means it MUST be true... haha.. well one thing I like that he hasn't mentioned are the lights from the steelworks.. I think they give the picture unnatural life... which i find to be a nice contrast with such a lovely sky.. anyways I will stop rambling well done well worth 2 pnts.

Hi Mark,
such a dramatic shot. I like this industrial sunset ;) with the structure nicely composed in the picture. I didn't understood well, you did if of three different shots and then assembled together? If so, you really did a great job.

You've excelled again MArk Excellent stitch job; can't see the joins. The drama of the sunset is caused in no small part by the pollution from the works. Well done

Nice shot Mark. Love the way you managed to get the factory as a dark foreground. Makes the colors in the sky stand more out. Great job. I think there is a Corus factory near here. Maybe I'll go there soon and see if I can make any nice shots.

well Mark this is very nicely done. Adding the machinery silloulette to the sunset sky really adds interest just as you intended. I posted a sunset today that has the same size photo as this one you have here.
I would actually post two pics. One like this and another earlier in the evening with side highlights againest the structure here. Just a suggestion Mark. I always enjoy checking on your gallery.

Great shot of the steel works against an interesting sky Mark.

I was out that night hoping to get some good shots so I know what you mean about the wind!

Very educational note, Mark
I like the silhouette of the diagonal transport band
You made this smoke producing factory looking very positive
The sky looks very peaceful with these nice colors

Nice industrial shot

Ishai

The silouhette is perfect, Mark.. Industry against nature. The sky is patient, but brooding. Well done.

hi mark, industrial sunsets are always a good subject, this one is particularly interesting due to its lovely narrowed horizontal fraiming;
excellent collours;
keep posting, good stuff!

Hi Mark

I like such stages. Wonderful coloring. Topping captivation. Details on good cutting off sky. perfect colors. beautiful sky, good work, best regards, rafal

Mark, beautiful picture, beautiful colors. I like the frame and the darkness, it's very interesting and the silhouettes are very professional.
Thanks
Sergio

Hi Mark. A good "industrial" motif for this sunset - the silhouettes of the old steel mill not only add a good foreground element but also they make this shot escape from a too "cliché" presentation of the scene. The red and blue hues in the sky - blending nicely with the clouds - are essential for the atmospheric value. Nice work.
