Ghost Bike
 |
|
| [Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe |
A year or so ago Manchester City Centre was home to a series of spray-painted bicycles. These disappeared a while back but I recently spotted this "Ghost Bike" chained to the entrance to an underground pub on Oxford Street.
While searching for photos of the other bikes (of which there is a Blue Danube and a Custard Bike (blue and yellow, respectively)) I found out a little more about what a Ghost Bike actually is. Apparently ghost bikes were used to signify the location of a bicycle road traffic accident, e.g. if somebody on a bike was knocked over and killed by a car or van.
This particular bike has been spotted in quite a few different locations so I suspect it is just part of an "art" project, rather than a memento of a loved one.
I will be submitting this photo and another (which I may yet post ;) as part of Manchester University photoSoc's "I (heart) Manchester" competition. The rules are strict on digital editing so this was merely tweaked in a RAW tool and then converted to B&W with a channel mixer. I added a border here because I think it helps the photo stand out.
Taken with a friend's 50mm f/1.8 Nikkor. A brilliant lens... hopefully somebody will buy me one for Christmas ;) |

Hello,
Un spray magique qui fait de ce vélo un bien joli sujet.
Contrastes entre blanc et noir superbes.
Bravo
Hi Lewis. I like the composition you have choosen, with this white bike on the right and a lot of dark space in the back. It's excellent, especially with the b&w choice. well done, Pascal
