Photographer's Note

Looking South to the Pentland Hills From Fairmilehead In Edinburgh. The Hills form much of the natural Southern boundary of Edinburgh.
Left of Center is Hillend Ski Slope which used to lay claim as being the biggest Artificial ski slope in Europe. That was a few years ago and when the left loop was active. You can still see the outline of it. It was closed of around 1990 due to injuries as it was quite a tricky run and on the wire brush matting there was always someone heading to the A&E Unit.
The Hills themselves offer great walking. Whilst only 1 mile from the city limits they stretch for around 20 miles south and 15 West. There are a number of great circular walks, which means you can start and return to the same point without doubling back. There are a number of little villages which are good starting and finishing points as they have nice little pubs where one can feed and lubricate oneself after a day in the hills.
