Photographer's Note
A few days before yesterdays posting I took this view of the canal below the cottage, which is just above the bank on the right. At the time I thought the Huddersfield narrow canal was so firmly closed (with the locks filled with conrete, filled in lengths, and even a factory built over it at one point) that it cold never be reopened. 3 years later a 20 year restoration plan began, which resulted in the canal being reopened in 2001. The warves at Saddleworth have now been converted into bijou apartments.

Amazing, Richard, after all these years. But I guess a good shot remains a good shot. I really love the light. The composition is as lovely as the scene itself.

Excellent picture, very good colours, it looks like it was taken straight from a fairy tale, you created very good atmosphere in this frame, well done!
One little thing, in the bottom of the frame there is a little branch that is not usefull.

Very misty picture, I like the setting and the reflection you ahve captured, very good detail despite the mist and haze, I would have cropped the stick, sticking out the bottom right there, but apart from that this picture makes me want to go back to England
Thanks

Very calming scene. I like all the details of the buildings and the hillside in the background in the upper left gives the scene depth. The warm tone makes this photo work. I also think that the sharpness is fine. I personally think that anymore would detract from the photo.

Great scene, just love the quality of the light; the picture has a timeless feel as well. Only qualm would be the half-tree on the far right that could be cropped away.

A most remarkable scene Richard! Despite the evident industrialization and pollution, there's a good atmosphere - almost serenity, created by the composition which highlights the trees and river, and the green tones. Excellent!

Soft, hazy light makes this lovely composition Richard, naturally reducing saturation of the colors. At first I thought it was a sepia image, but then I noticed the green along the canal's edge. I can almost feel the dampness of the air this February morning. You have a treasure trove from which to draw it appears. It is a wonderful collection. Makes me wish I hadn't thrown out boxes of 35 mm slides I'd accumulated from years of travel. I'm glad you're having fun with these favorite images of a bye gone era. Thanks for sharing them.

A very beautiful winter atmosphere rendered here and a very nice composition for this shot from 1975 ! (Thirty years old soon). This peicure is very well balanced with this perspective surrounded by these old buildings and the low saturation suits very well to this subject. Very well done !

Very atmospheric & very good choice to desaturate the colour, to almost sepia tones. I'd clean the slide & sharpen this a bit. Apart from that, a fantastic shot.

1975? Wow, suc an old shot, and the almost sepia really makes good with this shot. I like the Engish famous fog at the back, and the nice reflections of the leafless trees. Wonderful, Richard.

Beautiful! It is like a picture postcard!! Just perfect in terms of light, color, mood and composition. The workshop image looks like the photo has been run through the water color filter in PS. Looks more like a painting than a photo. Dont really think this needs any more sharpening. Great shot Richard and thanks for sharing.

Wow! At first I thought it reminds me a painting, but then remembered. Looks like a 3 dimensional video game or a picture, generated with 3d software :D
So unreal and fantastic.
And if not that wooden house on the left, the effect would be much weeker!
Great mood the image creates, just add the right frame, emphasizing the mood of mystery and I'd watch it all hour or so long :p

Ohh, Richard, grande immagine! Poetica, fiabesca e nello stesso tempo realistica e accattivante, un atmosfera suggestiva, tecnicamente ben eseguita, forse un po' sporcata da piccoli puntini neri, ma non importa, è lo scatto che conta!!!

Haven’t seen this one before. Beautiful light and a magical and relaxing atmosphere. The golden tones and misty air create a feeling of a painting. Also the POV is very good with the different shapes of the both shores adding dynamic to the view. And from 1975!

What a shot. Nice capture of the reflections on the water and the mist. With the faded light it has a very tranquil but eery look. I also like how you caught the outlines of the building and trees up on the hill. Very nice job.

I saw this as one of your featured photos on your profile page, Richard, and this really deserves to be up there amongst the best (actually I think it is better than the cow but everyone to their own taste). The soft light in this is wonderful - it is the type of photograph that I would give a day to wait for. Excellent scan for a photograph so old. Cheers . . . David

I seem to have not notified this fine compo before now.
But here we are: For sure a very moody presentation, almost natural sepia. Great details in a perfect setting with the shadowless light. A very 'classic' top disposed photo.

I Absolutely love the atmosphere in this shot. Sepia tone adds to it as well. Initially I thought I'd cut off some water, but it would destroy the reflexions, so it's better off that way.
Superb.

The pic has painterly quality. A very calm and serene atomosphere has been very successfully captured. However, I feel such kind of scenery can best be captured on a monochrome film and then doing the sepia tone. B/W films could successfully render a much vast tonal range compared to digicams.
