Gwyneth Lewis was the man responsible for the stunning lettering covering the outside of the Millennium Centre in Cardiff. The two transcriptions were chosen specifically to reflect the local culture and history.
The Welsh script, 'Creu Gwir fel Gwydr o Ffwrnais Awen', translates as 'Creating truth like glass from inspiration's furnace' and echo the architecture of the building. The copper roof of the Centre reminded Gwyneth of the furnaces of the country's industrial past.
'In These Stones Horizons Sing' was written to reflect the cultural ambition of the Centre. The words echo Wales's industrial past and the building's location - Cardiff Bay once being the greatest coal port in the world. |
