[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
Taken a couple of days ago during a visit to the beautiful Preston Mill near East Linton, East Lothian. Having snapped lots of pictures of the mill, I looked over a stone wall and liked the way that the late afternoon sun shone across this ploughed field of reddish earth.

Shot in RAW and converted and edited in PSE6.

Excellent shot John, i like the color contrast here and the use of patterns . I found that the horizon at the middle/half, so cropping the sky a bit may enhance the composition. thanks for sharing. Great work.

Greeting from Thailand.

great depth, the eye goes to the horizon

Hello John,
Fantastic shot, very good composition and point of view, nice colors and good contrast, excellent sharpness and depth of field, very nice textures and good light.
Angela

Hi John.
Scotland, but not in the highlands or beside a loch? Don't see too many like this. It's a beauty, with the furrows' shade softening from left to right of your viewpoint. The curving horizon and the house amongst the trees make this a very appealing image, and the furrowed earth of course creates a great perspective effect. All this under a fine sky. Very well done.
Regards,
Andrew

Hello John,

Marvellous!

How red and fertile this soil looks, with the low sunlight casting those fine shadows from the ridges - presumably ridged up for potatoes. It looks very similar to that found in Devon.

The composition is just right - the blueness of the sky contrasting so well with the red earth.

With a polariser this would have been overdone.

The farmhouse and clump of trees is in just the right place, and the gently undulating horizon takes the eye neatly across to the other clump of trees. The crosswise ridge at the bottom of the image underlines the composition nicely.

One of your best!

Regards,

Peter.

Hi John,

I do like the strong lines and shades in this composition.
But I have to say that the mud is a bit too orange toned for me, which does give it a bit of an unnatural feel. But hey, that's my feel.
The composition is nice!

Greetings, Dennis

Hallo John!
For me "the picture of the day"! Great, really great. The play of light and shadow is hardly to surpass. Congratulations to this one!
Greetings from warm and sunny Germany!

Lots of things to look at here, John. The deep furrows show up the shape of the land, and the groups of trees are in just the right places. The colour is perfect, I think - this is in the 'red soil' area of East Lothian and the sun really does make it glow like that.
Small criticism - I'd like it cropped off near the top of the clouds on the left!
Best wishes,
Winifred

Hi John,
The lines and your pov are very well composed in a great setting, but more important is the light what shines over the fields. High contrast, good saturation and on top a perfect blue polarised sky. As a focal point that house surrounded by the trees....very good, i like this one a lot.
Regards, Henk

hello John

Great composition of this pov to show parallel lines of the brown earth field in sharp contrast to blue sky and white clouds. Nice texture.

Hello John,

This is a real cracker!
I love how the furrows guide the eyes up the fields and towards the house and that wonderful blue sky!
The sunlight creates the most wonderful shadows and tones from left to right across the field. Well done, my friend!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

hello John,
this is a cracker! Lovely light creates great warmth. I like the corduroy effect created by the deep shadows of the furrows. The gentle dip at the horizon nestles a house with a copse of trees and there is something very nice about that. Lovely blue sky too.
Bev

Hi John,

What a great lens, huh?

Hello John, this is a lovely picture;I have been keeping my eyes open for a ploughed field just like this, for the beautiful texture it provides.
You were fortunate to have a brilliant blue sky too.It all comes together to make a fine landscape.
