Death of a painter
Monday, this week we decided to visit Museum More and the exhibition “Der Pinsel hat gesprochen” with paintings of the German painter Johannes Grützke.
Yesterday we read the message that he died this week.
Therefore I decided today to interrupt my series “Portraits of New York” with a “Portrait of the Dead Painter”
German artist Johannes Grützke died at the age of 79. This has been published by Museum MORE from Gorssel, where an exhibition of the artist is currently available. Although he was seriously ill for a long time, he could still attend the opening of this exhibition in February this year. It is his first major exhibition outside Germany and still visible until June 11th.
In the 1960s, Grützke resisted the prevailing trend of abstraction in German art world by painting primarily figuratively, this is what the Volkskrant writes today. He was therefore also called the German Lucien Freud. He is always realistic to continue painting work. Recently there was a fuss about his painting Darstellung der Freiheit (1972), which was removed by Facebook because the image would be "too sexually tinted".
In the workshop you can see a picture of Darstellung der Freiheit and a Selfportrait of the painter

Hi Rob,very nice idea to celebrate this artist that is gone in these days. Another perfect trio of pics, this time with the usual composition with someone looking the paintings, but with a very useful WS talking about his selfportrait, interesting the other artwork too. Have a nice weekend and thanks,Luciano

Hello Rob,
From these paintings I can imagine this painter (whom I didn't know) was not entirely uncontroversial. I think if the naked woman in the WS had been blown to pieces by a bomb (with her clothes on) she would have been more acceptable to FB. This main photo follows your usual style of someone watching the paintings. I think it remains a pretty good way of showing exhibitions, especially when the spectator is wearing red.
Kind regards,
Gert

Ciao Rob
Buon we

Hallo Rob,

Bonsoir, cher ami Rob,

Hello Rob,
I find out much about your love of art from your photographs.
The two interests work hand-in-hand.
I always find it interesting to view the art pieces by sharing the experience with a visitor, in this case, a lady with a bright, red cardigan which adds to your art as well as guiding us to the exhibited art.
I don't find him to be my favourite painter. Maybe I am too conventional but I prefer to see faces rather than bottoms.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Rob,
The colours of the sweater of the person is an eye catcher. The point of view is showing the details of the paintings. The surrounding light is enhancing the colours. Have a nice day.

Hi Rob
Sometimes one needs to read the words to understand the Modern Art, when words failed,.. Umm.. give a closer look of the art from a different perspective but still...???.. in a way that's what art does, it's still the same piece of art that is a kind of reflecting material hanging on the wall. Doesn't it? A clever shot.
Best regards

Dag Rob,
Bedankt.
Groeten uit een droog en rustig Vlaanderen,
John

Hello Rob,
I have to confess I have never heard of this painter, who has now sadly passed away. Your composition is an excellent way of paying homage to his memory. I like the inclusion of the lady in the foreground whose red top nicely complements the predominant tones of the paintings.

Mooie museumfoto.

Hi Rob
Strange paintings taking from the back of the nude ladies, and the live one seems to be astonished!

rob
amazing contrast between the candid lady in FG and the strong subjects of those painting ahead. in some aspects there is a mix of decay, violence and use of the woman as an object and, at same time, the flesh looks like a monster thing. impressive.

If I can see a person sitting in the front of a picture I try to guess what this person could think, what is her opinion, do she think the painter could become a classicer in the future?
very well done

Hi Rob,
Always a sad occasion when an artist dies. The seated fg woman in the red cardigan admiring the oof bg art works steals the show here and is in sharp focus. Tfs!

Hello Rob,
We share a mutual interest in works of art at a museum, and the way visitors interact with them. I put this in the group theme where you have many contributions. There is excellent depth-of-field, revealing the knit of the visitor's sweater and the details of the paintings.
Warm regards,
Bulent
