Photographer's Note

Jerusalem is a very ancient city. First walls appeared here long ago, but from that walls and walls erected by King Solomon almost nothing remained.
King Herod the Great created massive fortifications which also almost totally perished.
After the succesful storming of the city by Crusaders during their First Crusade, storm by Salah-ad-Din during the fall of Jerusalem Kingdom and so on and so on new walls were created here in XVI century.
Suleiman the Magnificent build a walls which can be seen nowadays, encircling the wjole of Old Town.
Have to be noted, that these Turkish walls are in wonderful shape and carefully restored by Israel. Much older (1500 years old, actually) walls of Constantinople, in the very center of Istanbul looks far worse, totally forsaken and falling apart in some places.
Anyway - here are the western part of the Jerusalem Walls, walkway towards most famous entrance in the Holy City - Jaffa Gate.
