Photographer’s Note
One more of the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat. This picture gives, just a little, an idea of the size of the mosque. This photo was taken at about midway through the outer courtyard. This photo shows some of the inscriptions carved into the mosque (this is where I wished I had a wider angle) and also some of the marble tilework in the flooring.
I would have liked a bluer sky but I took what I could get. The one thing I do like about this photo is the doorway at the end with the trees just below the chandelier (very small in this image but more prominent in full size).
Thanks for all the great comments and critiques on all these photos of the mosque.
John

Hello John,
Another symmetric and pristine image from Emirates. It is a masterstroke to have the man standing in the doorway, providing scale to this remarkable scene. At first pale, it looks like there is slight symmetry-breaking, the minaret appearing slightly off kilter. But on second examination one sees that the light side of the octagonal shaped minaret can be seen, but does not show up as well. The man adds a human touch, as well as serving as a calibration rod.
Well done,
Bulent

Hey John,
I see I've missed a couple of your great Oman photos the past couple days. I particularly like this one, as you have added a human element. Your previous post is also great, but this one for me is more interesting, with the solitary figure (even though it is far off in the distance). Maybe a bit bluer sky would have been nice, but I like the softness in the sky.
Will probably be heading here end of August (I looked it up, apparently June is the hottest month...though August is only slightly cooler...lol). So looking forward to seeing more of your photos.
