Photographer’s Note
The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. Built to commemorate the 30th year of the Sultan's reign. The sultans family has ruled Oman for almost 500 years and along with Brunei is the only other sultanate in the world. The one thing I will always remember about Oman is while driving in the rental car, listening to the radio, a song would suddenly be cut off by the doo-doo-doo, which precedes an announcement by the sultan. About 50 times a day.
The mosque is a study in detail and symmetry. This photo was taken just inside the front gate. The flooring is all marble. The walls all marble. The minaret in the back, yes, all marble. Really an outstanding piece of architecture.
Thanks for any comments or critiques.

You handled the lighting really well here, which is saying a lot, considering the overwhelming whites, added to the shadowed areas back in the cloisters/walkways. Not sure what you had when you started but it came out well. The only thing I think I'm not as much of a fan of is the frame with the tilt thing. I think it'd stand up just fine on it's own, so the frame sort of takes away more than it adds. Just my opinion though.

hi john, good details of the vaults,i like their reflections on the marble floor, seems like an architect`s dream the mosque.i`m not sure about the twist,i`d have used a white frame, but then what do i know?funny fact in your note, what were the announcements about?

Hi John, Usually I'd agree with CliffW regarding the tilted framing, but in this shot I like it. Without that feature I think the shot may have been less interesting. I find the bright whites just a little too bright though, but I imagine that is how they were, bathed in sharp sunlight. cheers, Steve

Hi John,
As usual, your image is nice and clean, with bold lines and neat angles. I am not overly fond of the tilt, either; I too think the image holds up on its own without it. Anyway, it's an interesting photo from what seems to be a very interesting country.
Cheers,
Sarah

Hey John,
I can't say much of the technicalities in this image, since they are well exposed, sharpness has shown the 'details' on the walls, the 'arches' and shapes through shadows, the simplicity of it's whiteness, graphic lines, smooth texture on the materials used. Great architectural feature, has the 'editorial' feel to it, plus the 'tilt' makes a twist to the perfect symmetry of your composition.
Great work dude!
