Whenever I feel the urge to get away from the frenetic pace of Dubai, and away from the endless traffic, I "head for the hills".....literally. Not many people are aware of the fantastic scenery and vistas not far from developing Dubai. After packing your bags, tent, and other camping gear, if you drive for about 2 hours past Ras Al Khaimah, to Kasab town, in the Sultanate of Oman, you will find places that have not seen man for some time. A friend and myself, drove up into the rugged mountains above Kasab town, and experienced nature which is not normally related to the Gulf countries. We spent two days hiking these mountains, exploring long lost mountain dwellings, and generally refreshing and reviving our lungs with the purest of air. I was amazed at the "Canyon-type" scenery as shown in this image, and the blue haze was just part of the scene. Oh...I forgot to say that we also had two days of rain...hence the muddy 4 X 4's.
