Photographer’s Note
Qatar is a small (11,000 sqkm) but indubitably important Persian Gulf nation; aside from oil, more natural gas reserves are found here than anywhere except Iran and Russia. It is nearly totally surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Arabian Gulf. The country is flat with some rocky outcrops up to 130 feet (40 m) high, with the desert landscape ranging from rocky shrub-land to beautiful sand dunes, and some bleak salt flats in the centre of the country.
On my way from Nepal I've decided to have half a day stop over there too. Rented a car and went directly to desert to be rewarded with some stunning desert shots which I didn’t hope for. This one was taken just before sunset. The wind was blowing strong and dust was flying in the wind with wonderful evening light. I particularly love this shot for its timeless feel.

A fabulous composition which appears like a painting Lucie. the tones, the heat and the dust are so marvellously captured with such an impactful finesse and control

Hello Lucie,
Des couleurs ocres qui attirent le regard dès la vignette. J'aime beaucoup ces teintes claires qui dominent l'image. Le mouvement des animaux est parfaitement capté avec le sable en mouvement au niveau des pattes. C'est très réussi.
Bravo !

Wonderful capture and terrific notes to go with it. Metering in the desert is very challenging, you pulled it off.
Well Done!

Hi Lucie,
well obviously this photo has great qualities. The general tone and colors, the blurred background, the positioning of the camels. I definitely agree about the timeless feel you mention in your note. But I can't keep wondering what it would have looked like with a wider framing. I'm tempted to follow that man's gaze but my eye is stopped by the frame. Besides, desert is supposed to be wide and this tight framing doesn't quite give me that feeling. That being said, I do like your picture.
Yours,
Philippe

Lucie: a classic - straight from a move - very cinemagraphic. Great color, sharpness - all the details are here. c

Ciao Lucie,
smart shot, perfectly composed and with an outstanding golden light. Clever restitution of the soft rose sand and it's texture.

Excellente la symétrie entre ces 3 dromadaire...
L'effet du vent qui chasse le sable et ce fond orangé est de toute beauté
Nice shot
