Norias, a photo from Hamah, Nord

Hamah is a charming city, eternally associated with the waterwheels (Norias). These famouse water wheels are very ancient, penetrating back to the old ages, carrying waters from the Orontes River high to canals which lead it to the various quarters of the city and its orchards.
The Noria word was derivated from the sound of the waterwheel. The Norias are very ancient, reaching back to the Aramaic Age, and the most ancient historical source of the Norias is a mosaic artistic image which was found in the ancient city of Afamia.
Its diameter ranges between 5 and 21 meters, and the number of boxes around its perimeter ranges between 50 and 120 boxes.
There used to exist about 220 norias, of which remained only 20 ones.

ottima immagine...mi piace la gestione della luce, il riflesso simmetrico e nitido...i toni dorati.
anch'io ho avuto occasione di visitare Hama e sono rimasto colpito da queste gigantesche ruote...e dall'abilità degli ingegneri idraulici che le hanno inventate

Ciao Matteo.Accidenti mi stavo perdendo questa meraviglia..quando ho visto che sei stato in Siria sono corso subito a vedere cosa avevi messo,ho fatto anche io il tour qualche anno fa ed e' sempre piacevole rivedere luoghi conosciuti.Hai messo molte foto spettacolari,ma questa e' davvero eccezzionale,mi sembra ancora di sentire quel rumore strano delle norie che girano..bellissimi riflessi e perfetto tempo di esposizione.Complimenti e buona giornata,LUCIANO
