Photographer’s Note
During our trip the eastern Black Sea regions of Anatolia, we passed through a small town called Bayburt. Really off the beaten path, Bayburt stands as one of the most forgotten places in Turkey, and although I have toured the country so many times it was my first visit to this place. It was dark because there was a big rain on that day. So I decided to focus on interiors, and this is how I discovered this old carpenter who was sitting next to his window and his baskets.
There was a technical problem with the lighting because balancing the dark interior with the baskets
was not easy. I decided to underexpose, and lighten the interior with PS.

Très intéressant portrait. Il aurait peut-être fallu (si possible) décaler l'objectif un peu plus sur la gauche.

Very good light on the face, and excellent composition. The post treatment is very sharp, also, fine work.

Hello Master,
I remember some of my shot from the back streets of Eminonu.
There are also some basket makers there.
Tones of the brown and his look really great here.

A fantastic photograph - this is what TE is all about - showing how people live their lives in different parts of the world. This is reality.
Lovely colours and tones give your picture a contented feel to it, and the light (altered in ps to good effect) gives the photo a real sense of depth.

izzet bey ,
bence ışık çok güzel,sadece marangoz dükkanında bu sepetler niye böyle ön planda onu tam anlayamadım.o da bizim değil marangoz amcanın bildiği bir şey galiba.

Very good portrait, Izzet. Don't worry about the light, it is perfect this way. You really managed very well with the exposure, and I find there's a beautiful atmosphere of intimacy. More light would have ruined this feeling. Great work !

Hi Izzet.
Nice and good picture with a good postprocesing. And also a nice capture with a good composition.
Simple, but I like how only one photo can say so things and talk to us about the way of life of this man.
Regards.

Nice shot Izzet;
The composition, and the mans posture make for an excellent portraiture. I like the inclusion of the machinery and the wood chips in the background, as they are a part of his life- they add to the photo.
Nicely captured Izzet;

Great shot. I love the angle you've got here and especially the focal length... the prominent foreground really makes me feel like I'm a part of the shot.
You've captured the essence of this workshop brilliantly. The great shadows really help.
Congratulations!

Wonderful portrait! The light is just right, giving good but not overwhelming shadows. I think your treatment of the exposure worked very well. The setting is well done too, showing the work table ad baskets behind, framing the carpenter. I like the pose too, strong but relaxed, and especially because you show the hands, which are so important for a carpenter. Great work!

A beautiful portrait, Izzet. The carpenter looks like a gentle and friendly man, and also seems to be proud and satisfied with the craft that he is doing. The baskets make a wonderful contextual detail to be included in the photo. I think the light came out perfect, and I'm glad to see an expert like you do the same exposure handling that I usually do (underexpose to retain detail, and then do any necessary brightening later on).

izzet bay merhaba,
can't help but i find your pics from turkey most exciting, much more than from other places; this portrait is just awesome, resembles the man i met the other day high in the mountains in southern turkey; sidelight here is just awesome, sharpness, overall quality;
the man himself is a bonus to this indoor image;
best woshes, jerzy
