Old but happy - I Photo

Photographer’s Note

This old man is one of the last leaders of the famous order of bektashi's. When I had portraide him some 17 years ago, he was sitting on a table infront of a cafe house in Hacıbektas (a small city in central Anatolia) where this mystical order was born ; dipping his tea and joking with the members of the order, sitting around him.
I dedicate this shot "Old but happy-I" to my TE friend Cuneyt ! Many others will follow !!!

ja, man merkt, er sieht glücklich und zufrieden aus ... und der graue Rauschebart eignet sich besonders gut für Schwarz/Weiß ... Warum ist er einer der letzten dieses Ordens? Gibt es diesen berühmten Hacibektas-Orden etwa nicht mehr?

Good tight crop here Mesut, and I like how you gave due emphasis to his magnificent beard!
You captured a great expression on his face, but I do find the image lacking a bit in eye contact. Not necessarily direct eye contact looking into camera, I just want to see his eyes. At the moment they're just featureless dark shadows.
Apart from that, this is a great portrait.

i just wish his eyes were more visible but still - love this work a lot...

You have a classic fine-art closeup portrait here. What a wonderful expression on this man's face. I am sure that he had more than his share of "ups and downs" in life yet his great attitude was still shining on. I am sure that you have won some awards with this photo as well. With your last photos you prove that you are an excellent overall photographer, but your strongest point is portraits. This one is amazing (so was the previous one). Really impressing tight framing and excellent composition. Beautiful expression in the old man's face.

Portrait is for me the most dificult photographic genre. It can tell a lot not only for the person photographed but also for the photographer. Besides the technical skills, what's more important is the approach. It takes a sensitive man to make the "model" express his feelings. I had no doubts about your sensitivity (especially after your mails) but I think that your portraits will leave no doubt even to those who see for the first time your work. My congratulations, dear friend!

Strong portrait of this bearded man MEsut. Top details in the tight crop. Maybe a little crop of the white in te upper part had worked well, and also a little fill flash in his eyes.

Bu mutesem portrede Bektasli beyin nerdeyse ruhunu yakalamissin. 1998 yilinda bir Amerikadad yasiyan bir Ingiliz piskolojisti enteresan bir kesifde bulundu. Dünyanin en mükemmel, en mesur yagli boya portrelierinde (mesela Leonardo'nun, Rembrandt'in yaptiklari) resmin tam ortasindan yukardan asagiya bir çizgi çizilirse, bu çizgi resimdeki sahisin bir gözünden geçtigini buldu. Sanat okullarinda hiç ögretilmiyen birsey, fakat resim yapan büyuük ressamlar bunu hiç düsünmeden bu sekilde aranje ediyorlarmis. Sizin bu portrede iste öyle!

Old but happy!Ican see it at his stisfied expression.And he seems to be proud,too.
ca 80% meiner Patienten sind über 70 und haben gerade ein künstliches Knie-oder Hüftgelenk eingesetzt bekommen.Ok sie haben nach der OPeration Schmerzen und jammern,aber die meisten jammern,weil sie es schon immer getan haben und unzufrieden mit Ihrem Leben sind.
Man lebt nur einmal and life is short.Man muss das Beste daraus machen und auch die kleinen Schönen Dinge erkennen und leben...
Ein tolles und sehr symbolisches Foto.
