Photographer’s Note
On a planet a long time ago, 10 million years in fact, there were two volcanoes which erupted leaving behind a combination of ash, lava and mud called Tufa. In this region of the planet the waters flooded this area and winds swept the formations both eroding the Tufa into unworldly sculptures of nature. The region is known as Cappadocia and lies in Turkey. Here the Tufa was found by early man, caves were dug into these formations, and some were given names such as "fairy chimneys" which are capped with hard basalt preventing a top down erosion of the Tufa. This region consists of many valleys where the Tufa shows it splendor. There were also two underground cities dug deep within these Tufa formations, now long since abandoned and only the empty chambers remain.
