Photographer’s Note
Generally in Turkey, it's at a younger age that girls are going to Coranic schools during the holidays ; there, they were all above 13 years old.
(Better IMO than the colour version that I did not complete).
The next shots of the same girls were better framed, but their poses are less natural ; the second from the left kept the same attitude during the whole shooting session, though.
Photo taken in Somkaya village, about 40km from Dogubayazit.
NB : I was later guided by the very energetic and charismatic girl who sits in the middle ; having met her mother and seen how poor their family was (the eldest brother in hospital and in need of cash money), I proposed that they prepare a light vegetarian dinner for me and I would pay for it.
Here is a photo of the evening spent there : late evening with a poor family, as I don't intend to post that photo now (it would take too much time to work on it).

Three are happy, two grumpy... Still they all have a dignified look and posture. I like it very much, Cath, but why not in color? Regards,

So you're back Cath. Welcome! Some of them look happy, some of them not. Who knows? Because 5 girls mean 5 different portraits, different lives.
Best Regards,
D:)

Bonjour Catherine,
Excellent choix du noir et blanc. Les poses sont fort différentes, les expressions aussi.
Belle prise de ces jeunes filles, dont certaines ont l'air de bien s'amuser:-)
Cordialement,

Sevgili Catherine merhabalar;

Grand merci, chere Catherine,

I love this a lot, Cath! Especially the proud expression of the second girl on the left is amazing; it dominates the frame despite there are other models. it looks like an old photo. all are very cute. and the sharpness is really good. congrats.

Catherine: yes, these are the best - a bit posed perhaps - but so many great historical portraits are. c

Hey,
I love this shot of the girls all lined up like that - and all wearing headware..makes for something different. THe black and white is also nice.
Cheers!

It's a photo to study...To contemplate each and every face...And pose...And the arms and hands...
A good observer/psychologist will tell us what kind of a material each and everyone girl in there is made of...
One of the miost charming group photos on TE I've seen..
Your domain, Cathy... And, you are the ruling queen

What a great variety of expressions and attitudes, Cath! The two on the left are so serious--for them, everything must be "proper." Not so for the next two, I'd say! Charismatic indeed!
Very nice tones to bring out the detail and character in their faces.
Regards, Ken.
