Photographer's Note

Just a picture of the multicultural heart of Istanbul, the Istiklal street in Beyoglu.

Formerly the central street of the quarter of the Franks ("westerners") and Christians and called "Grande Rue de Péra", today it is still one of the most colourful streets of the metropolis.

The white building at the right is the consulate of Greece that some years ago moved from a back street to the street were consulates should be (the English, French, Russian, Swedish and Dutch were already there)

For more information on the Istiklal Street see some of the extensive notes written by colleagues here on TE (Search for "Istiklal")
