Travels on the Silk Road:
This Silk Road traveller makes a stopover in Edirne, the capital of the Osman (=Ottoman) empire from 1365 to 1453. The buildings in the background are: to the left Bedesten (covered market, 1418), in the middle Eski Cami (1414) and to the right the masterpiece of the imperial architect Mimar Sinan, Selimiye Cami (1575), with four minarets. Edirne is situated on the ancient Silk Road, the Roman Via Egnatia (Durrës- Istanbul) passed trough Edirne (then Hadrianopolis). And the last Orient Express (Paris- Istanbul) arrived here in 1977. Map view reveals many details of this highly interesting city.

The slide is from 1992, it had to be scanned, with PS the sky was blurred to get rid of grain, smudges were removed, the pic was saturated 12%, sharpened 40%
