Blue Mosque, Sultanahmet Camii
 |
|
| [Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe |
To build a monument opposite the great Hagia Sophia takes courage and that is exactly what the architect Mimar Sedefkar Mehmet Aga, a student of the great Mimar Sinan, must have had. The Blue Mosque built between 1609 and 1616 is one of the most beautiful mosques in the world and the first in the world to be built with six minarets. It was quite controversial and the mosque had to donate two pillars to the mosque in Mecca. The mosque gets its name from the thousands of blue tiles that adorn the inside of the mosque.
The mosque has beautiful domes, each higher than the previous, and the mosque itself lies within an almost perfect square. The domes however are not bigger than the Hagia Sohpia and this did not please Sultan Mehmet who had ordered the mosque to be built. He is now buried in the mosque. The mosque also had an Arasta bazaar attached to it, and some of the best examples of carpets can be seen here. The mosque is still in use today, and is closed during prayers. This adds to the charm, as hundreds swarm to pray. The timings are clearly mentioned so you can plan your trip well.

Very good night photo, because:
- right timing - already dark on the ground, but some details of the sky are still visible.
- correct exposure;
- nice reflections on the water.
- right color balance - photo looks very colorful with some street lights white and green.
Hi,
great night shot.
