Photographer's Note

I took this photo in an ancient mosque within the old walls of Ibb. Ibb is a beautiful little town, a gem amongst gems in Yemen. I posted a photo from this mosque earlier here.

As many mosques in Yemen have signs hanging right in front of the entrance saying "No entrance to Non-Muslims" it is quite difficult to enter into some of their beautiful mosques.

I was quite lucky during my trip, and was actually given entrance to a few mosques. This was one of my most cherished moments when they allowed me to walk inside this mosque (and up the minaret where I took the other photo).

Thus I entitled my photo "The Open Door" as Yemeni's were extremely friendly and allowed me to visit some of their most cherished buildings.

As for the photo, I like the colours in the arch, and the lone man praying right in front of the open door. With so few tourists, and traveling in Yemen being like a step back 500 years, you almost expect the Prophet Muhammad to appear from the darkened doorway.
