Photographer’s Note
re-scanned, cropped (although I quite like the column, showing something of the architecture, I thought the image was better without, keeping it focused on the subject).
These two girls were waiting for their father who had business to do in the market at Al Tawila. Possibly not the best composition, with numerous elements and the girls central within the frame, but nevertheless it provides a good description of life there.

Hello Stephen,
Great shot actually-the girls and donkey patiently waiting.
Lovely colours and lighting.
A real document of daily life in this region.
Good job!

Stephen: these are irresistible 'Oriental' travel images - in the vein, of yea, orientalism. Great, quiet capture. regards, c

Very culturally vivid, Stephen, and it's well composed considering how many elements you have to deal with. Firewood, animal feed and beasts of burden are all essentials of daily life for these people, not to mention the veils for the women. It's pretty sharp, at least in the foreground, considering that it's a scan. Nice color scheme, too, with greens making a sweep from lower center to upper right. Regards, Ken.

Hi Steve,
I always enjoy pictures from Yemen, one of the world's most fascinating countries. I understand that you didn't have time to get the composition perfect (but it's all right with me). Although these girls seem rather young, taking pictures of girls and women in Yemen is not easy, and could be dangerous. That is possibly the only time when the extremely nice Yemenites could turn quite nasty.
Greetings,
Gert
