Photographer’s Note

I've been promising my wife that I'd upload this image for over two years. I don't know why I've put it off, but here it is.

The lighthouse at the harbour of Louisbourg was the second lighthouse constructed in North America (after Boston Light in Massachusetts). It's been torn down, burned down, or otherwise destroyed several times since, however. The current structure dates from the 20th century. But it's still a beauty. I liked this lighthouse much better than its more famous cousin at Peggy's Cove. Maybe that had to do with the fact that I had it all to myself this morning for about an hour and a half.

I got to this point at sunrise because there are some beautiful sea cliffs here. As I was shooting out to sea, I happened to turn and look the opposite direction (toward the lighthouse), and saw the clouds turning reddish-pink like you see here. Fortunate timing.
