This historic building once relayed the news of the world transmitted via cable from Waterville, Ireland to North America. Local legend has it that this was the first mainland North American telegraph station to have received news of the sinking of The RMS Titanic on the night of April 14, 1912. It was closed in 1962 and left to fall into disrepair and ruin. Lately there has been some effort on the part of local history buffs to have it restored with the aid of government, commercial, and private financing.
