Photographer's Note
This is one of my new favorite spots in Downtown Van.
I usually don't take photo's here simply because its crawling and crawling with business people and locals walking the sidewalks, people who get in the way of my scenes. Remember, i try to keep my photo's people-free!
But yes, I am learning the benefit of having some people shots every now and again.
Not today though :)
Here we have the Vancouver Art Gallery photographed in late Blue Hour. In the fg is the little reflecting pond, and behind me there are 2 large tall flood lights illuminating the entire scene. The exposure time is 30 sec, therefore the lettering on the Banner may not be readable because of it being blown by the wind.
Hope you like it
Cheers
Craig

Hi Craig!
I know this place very well and agree with you, it's usually busy spot with people all over during the day time. Enjoy the sky vs. the water reflection, kind of interesting composition.

hi craig,
30 seconds, wow. what an incredible result. the image is flawless. the detail and sharpness are excellent. the light has been perfectly managed and has resulted in some beautiful colours. the contrast of the deep blues in the sky with the rich golden tones of the stones is fantastic. the reflections in the water addthat extra touch.

Hello Craig,
an enticing, vivid picture with captivating atmosphere thanks to its superb clarity, lighting, colours and contrasts. The lighting makes the vertical and horizontal lines of the architecture very appealing and the banner enlivens the facade and makes it more interesting. The reflections are fascinating, apart from the lovely colours, they give a softer, dreamlike version of the rigid facade. The sky is a wonderful backdrop. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best,

Hi Craig,
Yes, I agree - sometimes it's nice to divorce oneself from the members of the human race but, at other times, especially in photography, they can come in useful in a composition.
Despite the wind, I find I can read the writing on that banner perfectly well. If there was any wind, your long exposure has smoothed the water in the foreground pool magnificently and the relections there are wonderful.
Fabulous light, lovely colours, a perfect "blue hour" sky and, as always, stunning detail and sharpness.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Craig,
My first focus was on the gallery, understanding the subject of the exhibition and that strong associated portrait. Then I moved to the architecture of the building. It was on the third focus that I took in the reflection and I cannot quite explain what an impact it had. It sort of moved the whole shot into a new dimension, I suppose because what I had originally perceived as just f/g, suddenly took on its own life with the strongly reflected portrait.
You guessed, I like it!
Have a good day,
Bev :-)
